April showers bring high-tech flowers! At least that’s how the saying goes in my world. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite gadgets (including, yes, high-tech flower-related options) to bring in the sunshine. After a long winter, many of us are overdue!

Parrot Flower Power ($55.44) at Amazon

No green thumb? Tech to the rescue! This gadget, aptly named Flower Power, is the first intelligent wireless plant sensor. It measures soil moisture, temperature, fertilizer and sunlight and then sends that information to your smartphone, so you know what your plant needs. Shaped like a little branch, you simply place it in the pot, input the type of plant you have (choose from a database of more than 6,000) and it will start communicating. Operates on one AAA battery, which lasts six months.

Powerful Plants Seed Packets ($2.95 each) at Powerful Plants

Watch these organic vegetable seeds come to life, as a character tells your kids the story of each plant. Just download the free app, scan a seed packet with your phone or tablet, and animated characters, like Daucus the carrot and Butter Nut the squash, spring to life, educating in the most entertaining way. If you want your kids to get excited about vegetables—and gardening—this is a great way to do it. The Powerful Plants app is brand new to the market and getting rave reviews from educators.

NYNE Multimedia Aqua Floatable Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker ($129.95) at Amazon

April showers don’t just bring high-tech flowers. They can also bring waterlogged speakers if you’re not prepared! My go-to waterproof speaker is the NYNE Aqua, a Bluetooth-enabled speaker that is actually designed to float in the pool. Aqua lasts 10 hours on a charge, submerses safely up to three feet and can receive phone calls.

Bedside Smartphone Vase ($32) at Uncommon Goods

Beauty and utility come together in this smart vase (aka “bloom box”). Just place your phone on the stand and fill the simple-but-elegant glazed stoneware vase with dry or fresh flowers (thread your USB cable through the dock to charge). Voilà! A touch of Zen on your bedside table, without having to hide your phone.
